Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in Indiana, but have been living in the Erie region since 2010. I graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 2004 with a degree in Communications. Most of my career has been spent working for a curriculum company, where I worked with students throughout the country on externships and job placements. I was drawn to EIT's great reputation and love that they're rooted in my own community.
What interested you most about becoming an Employment Specialist?
I have always enjoyed my work with students and was enthused about working with local students in their job searches. I look forward to making a difference in the careers of students!
What benefits can the EIT Career Services department provide an employer?
The relationships EIT Career Services forms with both the students and the instructors is very beneficial in working with employers. Employers often request job specifications/requirements that we are able to provide, due to the close relationship we have with the instructors and students. We are able to assist students with their resumes, interview preparation, and job expectations, which is a win-win for both the students and prospective employers.
What advice would you give graduates looking to find work in their field?
I encourage all graduates to be persistent and confident when looking to find work in their field. Be confident about the skills and hands-on experience you learned through the class. Keep an open mind and persist in applying for jobs in the field. When students interview with hiring managers I encourage them to highlight that they're hard workers and to be self-confident about the skills they’ve learned through their training with Erie Institute of Technology.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my kids. We enjoy outdoor adventures, sports, the beach, and just have fun together. I also enjoy running, kayaking, and recently joined the Eerie Roller Girls.
