Erie’s General Electric Transportation division started the second Manufacturing Apprentice Program at Erie Institute of Technology. In January, ten GE employees began 700 hours of training at Erie Institute of Technology’s Millcreek Mall complex. The apprentices have attended training for 40 hours a week through May 2010. The GE employees have completed trained in the following areas: Shop Mathematics, Manual Machining, CNC Machining, Blueprint Reading, Practical Dimensional Inspection, Fundamentals of AC/DC Theory, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Programmable Logic Controllers, Drafting, and Statistical Process Control.
A graduation ceremony was held at Erie Institute of Technology on May 20.The next phase of their training will be to do rotations throughout the GE Transportation’s Erie plant.
